Roy E. Lachman joined Zashin & Rich, Co., L.P.A. in 2010. Roy chairs the firm’s Class, Collective and Multidistrict Actions Group. Roy formerly worked as General Counsel to AmTrust Bank and its holding company, insurance broker, and securities broker affiliates. He provided counsel and represented those entities in court and with administrative and regulatory agencies. Roy’s counsel and representation concerned banking law, mortgage banking, real estate, securities, intellectual property, insurance, human resource and discrimination issues, class actions, all aspects of commercial litigation and collection, corporate governance, compliance and ethics. He has tried or managed over a thousand litigated matters in state and federal trial courts and courts of appeal. Roy has been counsel of record, or managed, the litigation and resolution of more than six class actions.

Before joining AmTrust Bank, Roy worked at a global law firm, after acting as a Staff Attorney at the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, providing legal analysis and advice to the judges of that Court.

Roy earned his B.A., cum laude with honors, from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his law degree (J.D.) from Boston University School of Law.Roy also earned an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where he taught before beginning his legal career. He is fluent in French and Italian, having lived overseas for six years.

Roy is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and State of Ohio, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the Fifth and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court.

Roy serves as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and as an arbitrator for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. He is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.
